The leaves are often plump and can be a variety of colors, including green, red, or purple. Some species have fine, hair-like filaments growing from the leaf axils.
The flowers are usually small and often pink or white. They typically open for a short time in the afternoon.
This succulent loves sunlight. For the best growth and to encourage the leaves to develop their characteristic red tips, provide it with at least 6 hours of bright, direct sunlight per day. If grown indoors, a south-facing or west-facing window is ideal. It can tolerate partial shade, but the leaves may lose some of their color and the plant may become leggy.
Like most succulents, they require well-draining soil and plenty of sunlight. They are drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering.
